Simon Berry, Daily Info, www.dailyinfo.co.ukTransplanted from Sheffield in Yorkshire to Buffalo, New York and with a raft of original songs, this musical take on the hit film works well as a musical. Focusing, like the original, on the lives and trials of a bunch of unemployed ex-steelworkers out to make a few bucks, this production by the local BMH Company kept a near full house entertained on its opening night. ... I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Pace is good, scene changes aside, and the energy of the cast is commendable in a production with over a dozen songs in it. The live music, provided by the eleven piece 'Full Monty Band', was excellent, most especially the keyboard playing of Nia Williams. |
Simon Tavener, Daily Info, www.dailyinfo.co.ukOxford Opera Studio is a group new to me ... Their choice of Seymour Barab's work 'A Game of Chance' was an interesting and enjoyable one. Scored for soprano, 2 mezzos and a baritone, it is a chamber piece of much charm and lyricism - not to mention some gentle humour. The three ladies have excellent voices and were well accompanied by Nia Williams on the piano. ... It was an entertaining 40 minutes of music theatre new to me (and I suspect to the rest of the audience). |
Alice Chance, This Is London, www.thisislondon.co.ukBeautiful performance as usual from this talented Oxford trio - let's hope we see more of them in London too in the future. |
